Board Highlights
Board approves school boundary changes
The board approved 25 boundary changes. Noted Chair McDougald, "We have had an unprecedented year for school accommodation projects. The good news is that we have reduced our portable inventory by half, and we have also worked to satisfy the Ministry of Education’s requirement for capital funding projects. I would like to congratulate staff for their hard work and dedication in working with the community to develop this plan to make efficient and effective use of Peel schools."
The following provides a more detailed description of the recommendations approved by the board. For more information on the boundary changes, call (905)890-1010, ext. 2200.
The Humberview boundary change
Effective September 2000, The Humberview boundary will be extended west to midpoint on St. Andrews Road and Mountainview Road, north of Old Baseline to Highway 9. Students currently in grade 8 will have the option of attending Mayfield S.S. or The Humberview.
Changing Humberview to a grade 9-OAC school only
The Humberview will be redesignated as a grade 9-OAC school, effective September 2001, subject to the availability of funding for the construction of the Bolton South Hill Middle School project.
New middle school on Bolton’s South Hill
The boundaries designated for the proposed Bolton grade 6-8 school, sited on Allan Drive on Bolton’s South Hill, will be consistent with existing boundaries and the recommended new boundaries for The Humberview, Ellwood Memorial P.S. and James Bolton P.S., subject to the availability of funding for the construction of the Bolton South Hill Middle School project.
The Humberview school extended French (9-OAC)
The boundary for Extended French, grades 9-OAC, at The Humberview, effective September 2000, will include all students living within the Town of Caledon.
Herb Campbell P.S. -- early French immersion expansion to grades 6-8
The early French immersion program at Herb Campbell P.S. will be extended to include grades 6-8, beginning with grade 6 in September 2000, grade 7 in 2001, and grade 8 in 2002.
Macville P.S. boundary change
Effective September 2000, Macville P.S. will be designated a K-8 holding school for the area north of the CPR tracks, south of King Street and west of the current Macville boundary for the new Bolton Middle School and Ellwood Memorial P.S. Students currently in attendance K-8 at Macville P.S. will remain at Macville until the new middle school is organized. All new students in this area as of September 2000 will be directed to Ellwood Memorial P.S. for K-6 and The Humberview for grade 7-8.
Heart Lake S.S. boundary
Effective September 2000, elementary students K-7 living in the developed area bounded by Heart Lake Road, Mayfield Road, City of Brampton boundary, Mayfield Road, McLaughlin Road, Wanless Drive and Conservation Drive will be directed to Heart Lake S.S.
Alloa P.S. boundary
Effective September 2000,
· The K-8 boundary for Alloa P.S. will be realigned as follows:
-commencing at the intersection of Highway 7 and Highway 10
-then north along Highway 10 to King Street
-then west along King Street to Chinguacousy Road
-then south along Chinguacousy Road to Old School Road
-then west along Old School Road to Winston Churchill Boulevard
-then south along Winston Churchill Boulevard to Highway 7
-then east along Highway 7 to the point of commencement
· The students living in the developed area bounded by Conservation Drive, Heart Lake Road, Mayfield Road and Kennedy Road and currently registered at Alloa will be assigned to Terry Fox P.S. for K-6 and to Robert H. Lagerquist Sr. P.S. for 7-8.
· The students living in the developed area bounded by Kennedy Road, Mayfield Road, City of Brampton limits, Highway 10 and Conservation Drive and currently registered at Alloa will be assigned to Somerset Drive P.S. for K-6 and to Robert H. Lagerquist Sr. P.S. for 7-8.
· The students living in the developed area bounded by Highway 10, City of Brampton limits, Mayfield Road, McLaughlin Road and Sandalwood Parkway and currently attending Terry Fox P.S. or Robert H. Lagerquist Sr. P.S. will be assigned to Alloa P.S.
· Students currently attending Alloa in grade 5 will be permitted to remain at Alloa for grade 6 prior to moving the Robert H. Lagerquist for grade 7 and 8.
· Students currently attending Alloa in grade 7 will be permitted to remain at Alloa for grade 8 prior to moving to Heart Lake SS for grade 9-12.
Brampton West future development
It is recommended that Heart Lake S.S. and Brampton Centennial S.S. will be designated as holding schools until additional secondary school accommodation is available.
Terry Fox P.S. boundary
Effective September 2000,
· The K-6 boundary for Terry Fox P.S. will be realigned as follows:
-commencing at the intersection of Sandalwood Parkway and Heart Lake Road
-then north along Heart Lake Road to Mayfield Road
-then west along Mayfield Road to Kennedy Road
-then south along Kennedy Road to the Trans Canada Pipeline
-then east along the Trans Canada Pipeline and
-then north along Barr Crescent to Sandalwood Parkway
-then east along Sandalwood Parkway to the point of commencement
· The students currently living in the developed area bounded by Conservation Drive, Heart Lake Road, Mayfield Road, and Kennedy Road and currently registered at Alloa P.S. are assigned to Terry Fox P.S. for K-6
· The students currently living in the developed area bounded by Highway 10, the City of Brampton limits, Mayfield Road, McLaughlin Road and Sandalwood Parkway, and currently attending Terry Fox P.S. will be assigned to Alloa P.S.
· Students currently attending Terry Fox in grade 5 and living in the recommended Somerset boundary will be permitted to remain at Terry Fox for grade 6 prior to moving to Robert H. Lagerquist for grade 7-8.
Somerset P.S. boundary
Effective September 2000,
· The K-6 boundary for Somerset Drive P.S. will be realigned as follows:
-commencing at the intersection of Highway 10 and Sandalwood Parkway
-then east along Sandalwood Parkway to Kennedy Road
-then north along Kennedy Road to Mayfield Road
-then west along Mayfield Road to the City of Brampton limits
-then north and West along City of Brampton limits, west to Highway 10
-then south along Highway 10 to the point of commencement
· The students living in the developed area bounded by Kennedy Road, Mayfield Road, City of Brampton limits, Highway 10 and Conservation Drive and currently registered at Alloa or Terry Fox P.S. will be assigned to Somerset Drive P.S.
· Students currently attending Alloa P.S. in grade 5 will be permitted to remain at Alloa for grade 6 prior to moving to Robert H. Lagerquist for grade 7 and 8.
Robert H. Lagerquist Sr. P.S. boundary
Effective September 2000,
· The grade 7-8 boundary for Robert H. Lagerquist Sr. P.S. will be realigned as follows:
-commencing at the intersection of Highway 10 and Bovaird Drive
-then east along Bovaird Drive to Heart Lake Road
-then north along Heart Lake Road to Mayfield Road
-then west along Mayfield Road to the City of Brampton limits
-then north and then west along the City of Brampton limits to Highway 10
-then south along Highway 10 to the point of commencement
· The students living in the developed areas bounded by Conservation Drive, Heart Lake Road, Mayfield Road, City of Brampton limits and Highway 10 and currently attending Alloa P.S. will be assigned to Robert H. Lagerquist Sr. P.S. for grades 7-8.
· The students living in the developed areas bounded by Highway 10, City of Brampton limits, Mayfield Road, McLaughlin Road and Sandalwood Parkway, and currently attending Robert H. Lagerquist Sr. P.S. will be assigned to Alloa P.S. for grades 7-8.
· Students currently attending Alloa P.S. in grade 7 will be permitted to remain at Alloa P.S. for grade 8 prior to moving to Heart Lake S.S. for grade 9-12.
· Students currently attending Robert H. Lagerquist in grade 7, living in the recommended Alloa P.S. boundary, will be permitted to remain at Robert H. Lagerquist for grade 8 prior to moving to Heart Lake S.S. for grade 9-12.
Springdale--assignment of secondary school students
Effective September 2000,
· Secondary school students living in Springdale West -- the area bounded by Heart Lake, Bovaird, Bramalea, Sandalwood -- will be assigned to North Park S.S.
· Secondary school students living in Springdale East -- the area bounded by Bramalea, Sandalwood, Airport Road and Bovaird -- will be assigned to Chinguacousy S.S.
· Students living in Springdale West and currently registered at Chinguacousy S.S. will have the option to attend Chinguacousy on flexible boundary.
· All Springdale enhanced students will be assigned to Heart Lake Secondary School. Students currently attending Turner Fenton S.S. will have the option to remain on flexible boundary.
· Springdale secondary school students currently registered at Bramalea S.S. will have the option to remain at Bramalea on flexible boundary.
Larkspur Public School boundary
Effective September 2000,
· Larkspur Public School will be organized as a K-7 school and become a K-8 in September, 2001.
· the boundaries of Larkspur Public School will be designated as follows:
-commencing from Bovaird and Bramalea Road
-north on Bramalea Road to Sandalwood Parkway
-east on Sandalwood Parkway to Torbram
-south on Torbram to Bovaird
-west on Bovaird to Bramalea Road.
· Larkspur students will be accommodated at two sites -- Robert J. Lee P.S. and Goldcrest P.S.
-students currently registered at Robert J. Lee grades K-6 will attend Larkspur P.S. grade 1-7 (holding at Robert J. Lee site)
-students currently registered at Goldcrest P.S. grades 1-4 will attend Larkspur P.S. grade 2-5 (holding at Goldcrest site)
-new student registrants K-5 will attend Larkspur P.S., Goldcrest site
-new student registrants grade 6-7 will attend Larkspur P.S., Robert J. Lee site
-grade 7 students currently registered at Robert J. Lee or Greenbriar Sr. P.S. will attend grade 8 at those schools
-new student registrants for grade 8 will attend Greenbriar Sr. P.S.
Springdale Public School #4
Effective September 2000,
· Springdale P.S. #4 will be organized as a K-7 school and become a K-8 in 2001.
· Springdale P.S. #4 open at Great Lakes Avenue with boundaries will be designated as follows:
-commencing from Bovaird, North on Dixie to Countryside Drive in the north
-west on Countryside Drive to Heart Lake
-south on Heart Lake to Bovaird
-east on Bovaird to Dixie and to include the development north of Sandalwood between Dixie and Bramalea and Countryside.
· Students living within the Springdale P.S. #4 will be accommodated at two sites: Birchbank P.S. for K-5 and Earnscliffe Sr. P.S. for 6 - 8.
· Students living in the developed area bounded by Heart Lake, Bovaird, Dixie and Sandalwood currently registered as Fernforest students will be assigned to Springdale P.S. #4 effective September 2001.
· Students living in the developed area north of Sandalwood Parkway between Dixie and Bramalea Road currently registered as Fernforest students will be assigned to Springdale P.S. #4 effective September 2001.
Bramalea Secondary School boundary
Effective September 2000,
· the 9-OAC boundary for Bramalea Secondary School will be realigned as follows:
-Highway 7 west from Torbram to 410
-south on 410 to 407
-east on 407 to Torbram
-north on Torbram to Highway 7
Development lands, north Springdale--assignment of students
Effective immediately, students living in the development lands bounded by Bramalea Road in the west, Mayfield Road in the north, Airport Road in east and future Sandalwood Parkway in south will be assigned to Birchbank P.S. for K-5 and Earnscliffe Sr. P.S. for 6-8.
Vales of Castlemore
Effective immediately, students living in the area east of Airport Road and North of Bovaird (the Vales of Castlemore) will be assigned to Eastbourne P.S. for K-5 and Earnscliffe Sr. P.S. for 6-8.
Westwood/Morning Star S.S. boundary
Effective September 2000, all students within the existing Morning Star S.S. boundaries will attend Westwood S.S. and the secondary school at the present Westwood S.S. site will be renamed in accordance with board policy 27.
Lancaster Senior P.S.--relocation and redesignation
Effective September 2000,
· All students in the existing Lancaster Sr. boundaries will move to the school site presently occupied by Morning Star S.S.
· The existing Lancaster Sr. P.S. site will be redesignated as a K–5 school.
· The middle school at the present Morning Star S.S. site will be renamed in accordance board policy 27.
· Lancaster Sr. P.S. will be renamed Lancaster Drive Public School.
Lancaster P.S. boundary
Effective September 2000, the boundary for Lancaster Drive P.S. will:
-commence at the corner of the CNR tracks and Goreway Drive
-south along the centre line of Goreway Drive to Morning Star Drive
-west along Morning Star Drive to Netherwood Road (including the students living on the south side of Morning Star Drive between Drifton Cres., and Reindeer Drive,)
-north along the centre line of Netherwood Road to Brandon Gate
-east along the centre line of Brandon Gate to Anaka Drive
-north along Anaka Drive to the CNR tracks
-east along the CNR tracks to point of commencement
Marvin Heights P. S. boundary
Effective September 2000, the boundary for Marvin Heights Public School will:
-commence at the intersection of Morning Star and Netherwood
-north along the centreline of Netherwood Road to Brandon Gate Drive
-then east along Brandon Gate to Anaka Drive
-then north along Anaka Drive to the Canadian National Railway (CNR)
-then west along the CNR to Airport Road
-then south along Airport Road to a point on the south side of Morning Star Drive
-then east along the south side of Morning Star Drive to Reindeer Drive
-then east along the centreline of Morning Star Drive to the point of commencement
and
-commencing at the corner of Derry Road and Cattrick Street
-north along the west side of Cattrick Street to boundary line between lot 11 and lot 12
-east along the boundary line between lot 11 and lot 12 to Airport Road
-south along the centre line of Airport Road to Derry Road

Ridgewood P.S. boundary
Effective September 2000, the boundary for Ridgewood Public School will:
-commence at the corner of Derry Road and Airport Road
-north along the centre line of Airport Road to Morning Star Drive
-east along Morning Star Drive to Goreway Drive (excluding the south side of Morning Star Drive from Airport Road to Drifton Cres.)
-south along the centre line of Goreway Drive to Derry Road
-west along the centre line of Derry Road to the point of commencement
Corliss P.S. boundary
Effective September 2000, the boundary for Corliss Public School will be expanded to include students living on the south side of Morning Star Drive from Darcel Avenue to Highway 427.
Dunrankin Drive P.S. boundary
Effective September 2000, the existing boundary for Dunrankin Drive P.S. will be maintained with the exception of all students presently living on the south side of Morning Star Drive from Darcel Avenue to Highway 427. These students will go north across Morning Star Drive to attend Corliss P.S.
Community Consultation
The preceding boundary changes were presented as proposals at the Physical Planning & Building meeting on Nov. 2, 1999. Subsequent to the Dec. 14 meeting of the board, extensive public consultation meetings were held in the affected communities to present and explain the proposals.
Board receives status report on school accommodation projects
The board received a status report on school accommodation projects for December 1999. The report will be prepared on a monthly basis for the Physical Planning and Building Committee. The status reports are available on the Peel board's web site at www.peel.edu.on.ca.
