Peel Board Approves revisions to Criminal Record Checks
This policy has been revised to ensure consistency with information contained in the provincial legislation. The Statement of Policy remains unchanged with respect to the board's responsibility, the text in the policy has been modified to incorporate the Criminal Record Check requirements for both employees and volunteers. The 90-day timeline for submitting Criminal Record Checks and the consequences for non-compliance have been clearly identified within the policy.
Appointments of Trustees to Legal Services Review Committee
Trustees Warren Kennedy, Valerie Arnold Judge. and Sue McFadden were all nominated and elected to the Legal Services Review Committee. They will join the Janet McDougald, Chair and Ruth Thompson, Vice Chair, who are already members of this committee.
Peel Board Approved Facility Rate Reductions for Community Groups
In July of 2004, the Ministry of Tourism and Recreation, and the Ministry of Education, announced the Community Use of Schools Initiative, designed to meet the following objectives:
1. Reduce cost barriers for not-for-profit groups
2. Endeavor to increase access for not-for-profit groups
3. Encourage discussions with municipalities on joint use agreements with the intent of improving accessibility and reducing cost barriers where appropriate.
4. Provide priority access for not-for-profit groups serving children and youth and low-income groups.Staff negotiations with the Ministry of Recreation and Tourism have resulted in the following proposed facilities permit rate reductions,
1. Custodial fees charged to not-for-profit groups on weeknights (currently $33.75/hr) will be waived.
2. Custodial fees charged to not-for-profit children and youth groups on weekends (currently $37.25/hr on Saturdays and $48/hr on Sundays) will be reduced by 70 percent.
3. Permit administration fees and flat (per room) fees, charged to not-for-profit groups, will be reduced by 40 percent.
4. Fees charged to not-for-profit operators of Before and After School Child Care program will be reduced by 40 percent.Upon execution of the attached agreement, the Peel District School Board will receive a $1,242,647 grant, which will offset the revenue lost due to these rate reductions.
A detailed communications plan will be developed and distributed to all community groups.

The boundary for Meadowvale Secondary School was changed in 2004. The boundary changes for Maplewood Jr. Public School and Edenwood Sr. Public School are to reflect this new boundary. No new students are affected as the new area is comprised of industrial and commercial uses.Somerset Drive Public School/Robert H. Lagerquist Sr./Heart Lake Secondary School/Herb Campbell Public School/Mayfield Secondary School
Students living on Donherb Drive and Lightheart Crescent in the Town of Caledon currently attend schools in the Heart Lake Family. This area can only be accessed through Summer Valley Drive, which is through Brampton, as a result students have been assigned to schools in Brampton.Esker Lake Public School/Terry Fox Public School//Robert H. Lagerquist Sr./Heart Lake Secondary School/Harold M. Brathwaite Secondary School - The proposed change is designed to follow the Highway 410 extension, which will provide a natural boundary between schools in the Heart Lake and Harold Brathwaite families. No current students will be affected as existing students will not have to change schools.
Secondment
Jim Smith, the controller of Learning Technology Support Services with the Peel board is embarking on a two year secondment to the Ministry of Education as Project Manager for the Managing Information for Student Achievement project. In his role, beginning in February 2005, Jim will liase with school board IT departments to help them understand the technical infrastructure and systems needed to support Evidence Informed Decision Making (EIDM) and specifically to develop strategies to upgrade their SIS systems to include the data needed for EIDM. The search for a replacement will commence immediately.
