Board reviews French immersion program
In 2007, the board implemented French immersion programs in several additional schools. However, the percentage rate of French immersion growth continues to exceed the board's overall enrolment growth. The French immersion program review would commence and conclude within the 2009 calendar year. Any recommendations coming from the review would require a communication plan for the 2009/2010 school year to allow schools to inform parents of the changes to occur in the 2010/2011 school year.
The French immersion program review will:
Consider registration timelines
Review French immersion program enrolment growth, relative to overall elementary growth
Identify the threshold for a viable French immersion program (minimum number of grades/classes for a functional program at an elementary school)
Impact on adjacent schools within a family of schools
Identify appropriate balance of regular and French immersion program enrolment at single school locations
Review of capital and operating funding limitations
