What's new with Peel Connects?
Did you know?--Going online is as easy as going to a school near you
Throughout the 2001-2002 school year, community members have free access to the Internet at 28 locations across the Peel board. Interested individuals are asked to attend an orientation session before accessing the Peel Connects facilities. At the session, you will:
- learn the basics about using the internet
- get a Peel Connects photo identification card
- meet other people from your community
- take home a package with information about your session
Orientation sessions are offered from January through June 2002 at the following locations:
- Greenbriar Sr. Public School
- 1140 Central Park Drive, Brampton.

- Time: 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.
- HJA Brown Education Centre
- 5650 Hurontario Street, Mississauga.
- Date: Jan. 14, Feb. 11, March 11, April 8, May 13, June 10
- Time: 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.
- Northwood Public School
- 70 Gretna Drive, Brampton.
- Date: Jan. 21, Feb. 18, March 18, April 15, May 20, June 17

Peel Connects introduces evening hours at four locations
Beginning Nov. 4, registered Peel Connects users will have the opportunity to access both computers and the Internet every Monday until 9 p.m. The following locations will offer extended hours once a month:
- Greenbriar Sr. Public School will be open to users from 4 p.m. until 9 p.m. on the first Monday of each month. The school is located at 1140 Central Park Drive in Brampton.
- The HJA Brown Education Centre will be open to users from 4 p.m. until 9 p.m. on the second Monday of each month. The centre is located at 5650 Hurontario Street in Mississauga.
- Northwood Public School will be open from 4 p.m. until 9 p.m. on the third Monday of each month. The school is located at 70 Gretna Drive in Brampton.
- Ridgewood Public School will be open from 4 p.m. until 9 p.m. on the fourth Monday of each month. The school is located at 7207 Cambrett Drive in Mississauga.
Peel Connects offers free training courses for registered users
*Introduction to computers or equivalent experience is required for all courses
- Introduction to Computers
- Learning to use a computer is made simple in this three-hour workshop. Included is an overview of hardware, software and general computer jargon.
- Location: HJA Brown Education Centre
- Time: 1 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.
- Dates: Jan. 8, Feb. 12, March 26, April 25, May 30
- Introduction to the Internet
- Learn to navigate the Internet in this three-hour workshop. Participants will find out how to use search engines, browse web pages and access government services.
- Location: HJA Brown Education Centre
- Time: 1 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.
- Dates: Jan 10, March 12, April 11, May 28
- E-mail workshop
- Prerequisite: Introduction to the Internet
- Set up your own e-mail account during this three-hour workshop. Participants learn to send and receive electronic mail, create attachments and detect computer viruses.
- Location: HJA Brown Education Centre
- Time: 1 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.
- Dates: Jan. 22, Feb. 26, March 28, May 16
- Introduction to Word Processing
- Participants are introduced to word processing using MS Word. Topics include creating a document, editing and printing.

- Dates: Jan. 24, March 14, April 9, June 11
- Introduction to Web Page Design I
- Prerequisite: Introduction to the Internet
- Learn the skills to create a simple web site using MS FrontPage. Participants will be introduced to templates, formatting and basic graphic design skills.
- Location: HJA Brown Education Centre
- Time: 1 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.
- Dates: Feb. 14, April 23, June 13
- Introduction to Web Page Design II
- Prerequisite: Introduction to Web Page Design I
- Participants will continue to develop personal web pages in MS FrontPage. Additional topics will include posting web sites, maintenance and troubleshooting.
