TL Kennedy Secondary School celebrates 50th anniversary with reunion
Students, parents, alumni and former and present staff of TL Kennedy Secondary School in Mississauga will celebrate the school's 50th anniversary at a reunion being held the weekend of May 9 and 10.
Former classmates and staff will have the chance to become reacquainted during "A Night with Friends" on May 9. An Open House on May 10 will feature school displays, a dedication ceremony, and the combined musical talent of band members from the past and present. Celebrations will continue throughout the evening of May 10 at a "Five Decades Dinner/Dance."
Says Jan Coomber, principal at TL Kennedy, "Service to others has been a mainstay of our school philosophy – and the grads and current students exemplify this in many ways. We look forward to celebrating their many accomplishments at our upcoming reunion."
TL Kennedy was named in honour of Thomas Laird Kennedy (1878-1959), a former World War I veteran, Minister of Agriculture for Ontario and Premier of Ontario. The school began serving the Cooksville community in 1953 as a small rural facility. Fifty years later, it is now a complex city school with a rich, vibrant multicultural population. Graduates have contributed to the legal, medical, artistic, athletic, educational and technical professions in Canada.
Times for the scheduled events are as follows:
- May 9 "A Night with Friends" - 7 to 11 p.m.
- May 10 Open House – 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Dedication Ceremony - 1 p.m.
"Five Decades Dinner/Dance" - 7 p.m. to 1 a.m.
"A Night with Friends" and the Open House will be held at TL Kennedy Secondary School, 3100 Hurontario St. in Mississauga. The "Five Decades Dinner/Dance" will be held at the Delta Meadowvale Resort and Conference Centre, 6750 Mississauga Rd. in Mississauga.
