School councils are successful, survey indicated
School councils in Peel are working well. That's the finding of an extensive survey of councils. The review found that each Peel school has a council with parent and teacher representatives. All high schools also have student representation.
Most of the work of school councils focuses on three areas: school community communication strategies, methods of responding to parents and the community, and school code of behaviour. Almost 90 per cent feel their school council membership reflects the diversity of their community.
The Peel board's policy on school councils was developed in 1996 with input from 1,500 parents and community members. For more information about school councils, call 905-890-1010/1-800-668-1146, ext. 2817.
